You've Got Mail & an Awesome Apartment!

Being a Huge Nora Ephron fan & an interiors fanatic, You've Got Mail with legends Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan set in New York is one of my fave films. Based on the original movie Shop around the Corner with James Stewart it has cool interiors, the charm of Nora Ephron and it's just an easy movie to watch. The leading characters meet online & begin an anonymous friendship that leads to romance & is funny and charming. I love the shop owner Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryans) studio apartment (snap). It's perfectly formed with charm, storage and functionality, the furniture is the perfect size for the space which she does have alot of but it keeps your eye moving and each area is defined. Meg Ryan's desk acts as a partition where she writes to her pen pal NY152/Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) from one area to another and big armchairs create zones. There is also a clever use of lights using lots of lamps to create warmth and soft lighting which adds to the cosy feel created in the studio. Kathleen/ShopGirl (her alias online she uses to chat to Tom Hanks's character Joe Fox) is easy going, relaxed & a lil bit kooky and warm just like the apartment. Go watch it immediately and swoon over the interiors it's a perfect Winter movie & the soundtrack is also delightful! You will be skipping through piles of leaves in no time! Jen xx
